At Nursegrid, we believe in the power of community. To us, community means sharing experiences, offering support, and making connections. We created these monthly Spotlights for that reason – to showcase you, share your stories, and ensure your voice is heard.

Tell us about you and why you began your side hustle, The Résumé RX:
I started The Résumé Rx after noticing that so many of my colleagues didn’t know where to start when it came to writing a résumé. I’ve seen this task cause so much stress for nurses and even hold them back from chasing their goals! Writing and career navigation has always been something to come easily to me, so I knew I had to share this information with others. I love empowering other nurses to put their passions on paper and land the career of their dreams!
What inspired you to become a nurse?
When I was in high school I was fortunate to have an amazing nurse midwife as my first women’s care provider. I admired her ability to be an educator, an advocate, and a healer all in one. After pursuing my personal interests in undergraduate school (I have degrees in violin performance and Italian language!) I decided that I wanted to serve others in a bigger way. I knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner, so I made it happen!
How do you balance work, life, family, and self-care?
I am always striving for balance, and I feel it is especially important working in emergency medicine in dealing with secondary trauma. In 2016 I gave birth to twin girls, and I have tried to create a work-life balance that maximizes my time with them. In January 2018 I went part-time in my clinical position and in July I founded The Résumé Rx. Both of these changes have allowed me more time at home with my family. I love that this flexibility affords me the ability to create a schedule and lifestyle that is aligned with my personal and professional goals. I think that many of us have a picture in our mind of what our working lives should look like, but the reality is that we have the ability to create the life we want, if we just think a little bit outside the box.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of the nurse community?
Being part of the nurse community, especially online and via social media, has been so amazing. I love that we can come together as a profession and support each other and inspire each other. Our work is hard. It drains us physically, emotionally, and sometimes even spiritually. Transitioning through different life stages can be lonely. But being a part a large network of nurses gives me a place to be rejuvenated professionally and socially. I’ve made so many nurse friends online who I would have never been able to cross paths with in person. How amazing is that? It’s something that my mom, a veteran nurse of almost 40 years, never had the luxury of – and I don’t take that for granted!
What do you love most about Nursegrid?
Nursegrid is so much more than an amazing app to me (seriously, it’s the only digital calendar that is night-shift friendly!). Nursegrid has created a community of advocacy for the nursing profession. I love seeing Nursegrid speaking up for nurses. They are committed to the advancement of the nursing profession as well as the positive portrayal of nursing in the media. Hats off to you, Nursegrid!
