Nurse Well-being in the Face of an Ongoing Pandemic is the 4th in a series of surveys conducted by Nursegrid™ to track the impact of COVID-19 on nurses in the U.S. The current update, conducted in September 2021 and consisting of over 10,000 respondents, revisited issues facing nurses during the Delta variant surge that led to hospitals reaching limits on patient capacity and staffing resources while caring for mostly unvaccinated patients.
91.5% of nurses say they are worried about the current shortage of nurses.
Nearly 4 in 10 nurses (38.6%) say they are now planning to leave patient care by the end of 2021, up from 24.8% in January 2021.
26% of nurses gave high ratings to their level of career fulfillment in Sept. 2021, compared to 41.4% in Sept. 2020.
Just over half of nurses (54.7%) report that management has taken action to support nursing staff. Only 18.9% of nurses feel that the pandemic has made managers more attuned to the challenges they face.
Less than half of nurses (48.5%) say they are more confident dealing with new or varying clinical conditions, despite a year and a half of experience treating COVID-19 patients
